He Reminds Me

I am walking up a street
To see a face I thought I’d never see again
Keeping up an awkward pace
While I wear a shirt sweat-stained from him

I speak only what comes to mind
And say his name a thousand times
Synchronized with every step
Finding it hard to believe
That all the miles no longer keep
The answer to my only request

I’m not used to being used too
And it’s not easy knowing he has control
Call me crazy but he saves me
Every time you think he won’t
He reminds me why I belong

When he leaves I can’t maintain
Ability to keep thoughts arranged accordingly
So I push them all away
Desperate just to make him stay here with me

And I know he’ll run away
Exactly like last time he came
I’m afraid it never ends
Holding on to what we have
The promises I hope will last
In photographs that only fade

I’m not used to being used too
And it’s not easy knowing he has control
Call me crazy but he saves me
Every time you think he won’t
He reminds me why I belong

Don’t judge me, don’t look at me that way
He loves me, but why can’t I make him stay?

I’m not used to being used too
And it’s not easy knowing he has control
Call me crazy but he saves me
Every time you think he won’t
He reminds me why I belong
