Make-Believing

The only time you say it is when we’re too intoxicated
And the only time you “need me” is when I’m close to leaving
The only time I feel love is when we’re trying not to give up
And the only time we’re happy is when time is quickly passing

Who knew that love could stop without us knowing of it?
What do we do when pain is all that we’ve got going for us?

And I–I want to pretend that there’s starting again
But I–know there’s no such thing as make-believing

The only thing I needed was to try to fit the pieces
But the only thing you gave me was less than what could save me
The only thing I dreamed of was someone returning my love
But the only thing I got back was you saying, “I don’t want that”

Who knew we’d fall apart without us seeing?
What do I do when pain is all that I’ve got going for me?

And I–I want to pretend that there’s starting again
But I–know there’s no such thing as make-believing

All this time I told myself here must be something wrong with me
But now I know that it’s not my fault and I have been set free

And I–I want to pretend that there’s starting again
But I–know there’s no such thing as make-believe

And I–I want to pretend that it never ends
But I–know there’s no such thing as make-believing
