Pages

On these pages, everything’s laid out in stages
All of the times I was breaking, I’d been making preparations
So I’m writing confessions no longer worth hiding
All of these plans kept inside me providing illustrations

Like street maps of some big city,
I’ll use words for lines that get me
Back to the place I left long ago
I’ll follow all the signs that take me
Inside places I’ve been saving
Until there’s nowhere else left to go
Then I’ll be home

On these pages, memories bleed through in phrases
All of the blurred-out faces are replaced with revelations
So I’m leaving subconsciously hoping they’re grieving
All of the years used in weaving a reason for believing

Like street maps of some big city,
I’ll use words for lines that get me
Back to the place I left long ago
I’ll follow all the signs that take me
Inside places I’ve been saving
Until there’s nowhere else left to go

I won’t forget, I won’t forget all of the things they said
“You may leave, but you’ll never get that far”
They won’t forget, they won’t forget all of the things they said
When they realize they’ve never even left

Like street maps of some big city,
I’ll use words for lines that get me
Back to the place I left long ago
I’ll follow all the signs that take me
Inside places I’ve been saving
Until there’s nowhere else left to go
Then I’ll be home
