The Song Goes On

I asked to hear a song, so he played all night long
Trying hard to win a game that does not end
He thought that I could sing a heart to disbelief
But when he touched the strings, it was clear to me

All I needed was only five feet away
But somehow I’d fallen before I made it to that place

All I could feel inside
Was the place he used to be
And the void there currently
I died a little when he lied
But forgiveness is not free
And I’ve no apologies
Still, the song goes on

The music quickly fade as he pushed love away
Phrases were replaced by sounds of silent days
I wanted to return but love has long since burned
The bridges that we made when it turned into pain

All I needed was getting further away
And somehow I’d forgotten before love remembered to stay

All I could feel inside
Was the place he used to be
And the void there currently
I died a little when he lied
But forgiveness is not free
And I’ve no apologies
Still, the song goes on

And I could not look back, not look back to remember what we had
But what good does it do, does it do to throw away the past?

All I can feel inside
Is the place he used to be
And how much he misses me
I died a little when he lied
But I’m finally free
And I’ve no apologies
Still, the song goes on
